Book description: How does one approach the mythos of Brazil? From the highly planned high-rise modernist towers of Brasilia to the organically structured favelas of Sao Paulo, Brazil offers vastly complex historical, cultural, and social contexts for framing architectural investigation and experimentation. This publication documents research and preliminary design work being used as an active "perception filter” to facilitate the gathering of field information during an architectural field trip to Brazil. Moreover, it illustrates how the material brought back from Brazil, as seen through 40 architectural eyes, was reflected in another design project that benefited from the full range of hands-on and field research.
