Hong Kong has a unique political and cultural status in relation to the rest of China and its government as long recognized creative industries as important economic drivers for the city. A number of scholars have expressed much skepticism with regard to the term 'creative industries', considering it vague and impractical at best and a complete oxymoron at worst. Focusing on Hong Kong and also drawing upon other countries as references, this is one of the first books that engages current scholarly debates in creative industries to explore some of the most significant activities that fall under this umbrella term in Hong Kong, using a multidisciplinary approach to examine its film and television industries, popular music, arts and crafts, creative writing programs, fashion and museums.
