The Days in Occitania described here were spent in Piboulde, a remote hamlet in the Quercy region of Languedoc, south west France, where Denis Knight and his wife Nora lived for many years. Rather than taking the traditional route of establishing friendly relations and then observing at a distance, Denis and Nora were embraced and taken to the heart of a timeless peasant culture that even the most ardent Francophile can usually only glimpse from the roadside. From this privileged position they explored all the life and drama hidden in a small and tranquil place.
