The 'research station' installation on the roof of Kunsthalle Recklinghausen is based on a fictitious process: the re-examination of the museum. It is also the portrayal of an absurdist discovery process; this is an environment that has been described and defined in great detail. The process is inspired by the methodology of tropical rain forest researchers: from above. This observation is very discreet and involves very little contact with the object; it is however, very laborious. The research aims to find and/or confirm sensory connections and to control the complexity of the situation. At the metaphorical level, Heike Mutter und Ulrich Genth are carrying out a complicated exploration of the world of art from a self-selected distance. In this way, the museum is presented as an unlikely living environment. This work was published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name at Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, 2006.
