Set in London during the Treaty negotiations of 1921, Allegiance tells the story of the unlikely friendship which developed between Michael Collins and Winston Churchill. From an initial aversion to each other, an evening of hard drinking and hard conversation turned them into (according to Lord Birkenhead) "bosom pals".
