Monet / Mitchell is the first US exhibition to examine the complex relationship between the paintings of the preeminent French Impressionist Claude Monet (1840–1926) and the leading American artist Joan Mitchell (1925–1992).

The catalogue assembles 24 paintings, 12 by each artist, and examines the intense closeness to nature of these two artists and the ways in which they addressed similar subject matter and techniques. The paintings are primarily drawn from the spectacular collections of the Museé Marmottan Monet and the Fondation Louis Vuitton, and the Saint Louis Art Museum.
