August Montgomery's wife is viciously attacked and killed in a racially motivated crime a week after they are married. In an attempt to find the answers to his suffering and an end to the prejudice that cost him his wife's life, August heads north to Philadelphia. As he turns to a life of ministry in the city of brotherly love, August must once again face bigotry and the heartbreaking memories he has not yet made peace with. When August finds an unlikely friend in William Sheffield, the one man who was most intolerant to him, August begins to feel renewed hope and faith in humankind. Although August is tested many times throughout his journey it is only when he returns to his hometown that he realizes his greatest test is yet to come. With the support of William and the Church, August faces the community that betrayed his trust and allowed the murder of his wife in the hopes of breaking down the deeply rooted racial barriers. Will August be able to find forgiveness for those around him, or have the generations of hate frozen hearts beyond thawing?
