After a long and tiring bus trip, Shelly Morris arrives in a strange city, where Michael has made arrangements for her abortion. At the Center, she discovers her billfold is missing, and the clinic refuses to accept her with neither money nor identification. Devastated, she returns to the bus depot, but learns that no one has turned in the billfold. Even her return bus ticket is gone. Frustrated and frightened, she breaks into uncontrollable sobs until a caring woman comes to her aid. Learning of Shelly's misfortune, she offers the girl a room for the night. Hesitantly Shelly accepts, only to find it is a church-operated home for single, pregnant girls, waiting to give up their babies for adoption. Shelly decides this is no place for her and goes out to find a job to pay for her abortion. But plans for the under-legal-age teen do not go well; alone in a strange city so far from friends and home.
