Employee Assistance and Workplace Counselling
The past decade has seen major changes in the nature of employment, the philosophies and practice of Human Resource Management, and the provision and perspectives of Employee Assistance Programs. The latter are now firmly established in the US and being increasingly offered in the UK and elsewhere. Yet no book on EAPs in Britain has appeared since 1997. This book redresses that imbalance, providing an up-to-date and authoritative evaluation of the British context and practice. Building on interviews with a host of EAP provider firms, HR managers and associations, and dealing with professional and technical aspects of the topic, the authors explore the strategic and tactical contribution of employee counselling to HRM in the search for competitive advantage.
