Kouvola Impressions
Kouvola is a small city, but big enough to make it hard to fit in such a
small book.
Today’s Kouvola is a combination of compact city dwelling and the open
countryside, and as a border city, it has a history of wars.
The smell of the paper mills and railways are part of the local mental
landscape, even though trains and pulp mills are odourless nowadays.
Kouvola is a versatile city, including the Repovesi National Park,
Arboretum Mustila, a long stretch of the Kymi River, hundreds of lakes,
and thousands of summer cottages. In addition to enchanting landscapes,
this book presents fitness activities, alternatives for sports fans, and
various cultural events for people of all ages and interests.
The Kouvola people have never had the habit of boasting about their home
region, but this book defies that principle, revealing what life has to
offer in the city that lacks nothing but the sea and traffic jams.
