A volume of panel paintings by Philip James ROI distils his experience of the Cumbrian landscape. First published in 2005 the latest journey in March 2012 started in Kendal, and moving on to Windermere, Bowness and Ambleside. From there: Keswick and Derwentwater, Ullswater and Braithwaite to Buttermere, via the Whinlatter Forest, The beautiful environment of tarns and fells opens many varied experiences for the traveller. I visited Cockermouth, Grasmere and Rydal Mount, Wordsworth's home. Then Penrith and Carlisle, Tebay and Appleby In Westmorland; continuing over to Workington and Whitehaven on the coast. I moved south to visit Barrow In Furness, Ireleth, Ulverston and Grange Over Sands. Leaving Cumbria for Lancashire I took a route from High Bentham to find Slaidburn, a historic village set deep in the Lancashire Fells. The book includes eight colour plates of works and photographs of the lake district.
