Mestarillinen lasinpuhaltaja - lasinpuhaltajamestri / A Masterly Glassblower

Jaakko Liikanen on elävä esimerkki tästä vuosisatojen aikaisen lasikulttuurin tämänpäiväisestä ilmenemisestä. Perusteellisten opiskelu- ja työharjoittelujaksojen jälkeen hän työskenteli eri lasitehtaissa monien nimekkäiden taiteilijoiden teoksia toteuttavissa työryhmissä, "verstakoissa". Ammatillisen kehittymisen ohella tämä avasi hänelle myös näkymiä suunnittelun maailmaan. Taiteilijoiden ja lasinpuhaltajien yhteistyö on onnistumisen edellytys. Taidelasin perinteeseen on kuitenkin kuulunut toteuttajien nimettömyys, vaikka tiedetäänkin, että ilman lasinpuhaltajien korkeata ammattitaitoa ja taiteellista näkökykyä olisivat monen taiteilijan työt jääneet paljon vaatimattomammalle tasolle.

Jaakko Liikanen is a living example of how this centuries-old glass culture finds expression today. After a period of through training and apprenticeship, he worked in various glassworks in the teams, or "chairs", that executed the designs of many noted glass artists and designers. Along with professional development this opened up perspectives on the world of design. The collaboration of designers and glassblowers is one of the conditions of success. The tradition of art glass, however, has included the anonymity ot those who ultimately make the pieces, although it is well known that without the high standard of skill and artistic vision of glassblowers the designs of many artists would have remained at a much less impressive level.
