In Education, Society and the Pursuit of Values, Andrew Baker draws on his work as a Headmaster for over 22 years. Andrew spoke to the school almost daily on a range of issues which had moral or spiritual dimensions for he felt that it was important for young people to develop some sense of how a decent life might best be led. His notes from these occasions he has now developed into a collection of essays giving the book an appeal not only within education but to a much broader audience. The book is, in many respects, an exploration of the human spirit. Each of its five sections offers 20 essays of similar length. It invites readers to consider themes such as relationships, the importance of personal responsibility and choice in our lives but it also brings into focus social and political aspects of the contemporary world as well as the lives of notable and exceptional men and women. It is a book which will both challenge and provoke.
