Agriculture, Trade, and the Wto in South Asia
This paper provides an overview of the performances of South Asia during the implementation of the Uruguay Round Agreement on Agriculture (URAA), and offers interests and options in the next WTO trade negotiations. The book assesses three critical questions: how did applied tariff protection change during implementation of the URAA?; did the WTO Agreement on Agriculture influence domestic policies in agriculture during implementation?; and did South Asia undertake unilateral reforms during implementation? Based on thses questions, the book offers interest and options for South Asia in the next trade negotiations. The paper also represents some of the important issues that South Asia would like to discuss in the new trade aganda.
