In recent years, the labour market situation of the ageing has become an issue of critical importance in the Nordic countries. When looking at the demographic developments and estimates presented in this article, it is easy to see why. All of the countries face similar challenges in the future, namely a growing proportion of people on pension and ageing of the workforce. This article is an overview of the situation and aims at providing a synthesis of research. Because Iceland is an exception in most of the respects of this article, and there is little research available, it is not included it in the study.
