This book will serve as a quick reference for team physicians and athletic trainers regarding the risks related to athletic participation in various environments. Early recognition of risk may reduce the chance of injury or illness; early identification of clinical symptoms or findings in each athlete should minimize the negative impact of the pathologic environmental exposure, and the proper treatment of injury and efficient removal from at risk environment should optimize safety and recovery of each athlete. The various chapter will follow a similar structure to allow ease of cross-reference for the reader and include the description of the environmental risk and how to avoid or minimize risk, clinical pearls regarding identification of environment related injury or disease followed by recommended initial treatment response, recommendations regarding extraction from pathologic environment, learning objectives, key reading references, comprehension/review questions etc. Each chapter begins with IT’s followed by the environmental challenge addressed within the chapter.
