In Paris 1940, Humbert and several colleagues formed one of the first organised groups of the French Resistance. In 1941, they were betrayed to the Gestapo and imprisoned. The men were executed and the women were deported to Germany as slave workers. These are the events as described in her private journals, first published in France in 1946, and here translated into English for the first time.
