Battles Lost and Won is an anthology of essays on military aspects of the Civil War. Topics include: conflicting evaluations of Robert E. Lee; the recruitment of Negro soldiers; the impact of West Point on the evolution of both Union and Confederate tactics; and an examination of some of the biases reflected in nineteenth and twentieth century historiography.
