Tutkimuksessa ‘Someone to welcome you home’: Infertility, medicines and the Sukuma-Nyamwezi, tarkastellaan tansanialaisen sukuma-nyamwezi yhteisön kulttuurin muutosta ja tämän muutoksen seurausta erityisesti naisten hedelmättömyyttä koskevien kulttuuristen käytänteiden kautta. Tutkimuksessa kiinnitetään erityistä huomiota holistisen ideologian muutoksiin ja väitetään että afrikkalaisissa yhteisöissä yleinen ennustaja-parantajien ja noituuden lisääntyminen ovat seurausta sosiaalisen todellisuuden ja kosmologisen ideologian välisen suhteen muutoksesta.

In this dissertation ’Someone to welcome you home: infertility, medicines and the Sukuma-Nyamwezi’, I look into the cultural change among the Sukuma-Nyamwezi of Tanzania and into the consequences of this change especially through the cultural practices connected to female infertility. In this research I pay special attention to the changes in the holistic ideology and I claim that the common efflorescence of diviner-healers and witchcraft is a consequence of the change in the relationship between the social reality and cosmological ideology.
