Annabel discovers that a dark world of trolls, witches, goblins and magic lurks just below the surface of everyday London, and New York too. Walking down a familiar street, she enters a house she's never seen before and meets Patrick, the son of a witch, disguised as a Geography teacher. She gets taken to Maxim the troll's All Night Diner-the coolest place on the planet for those who know magic. Here trolls, witches and goblins meet, enjoy food, drink and story telling. But there is a danger, as Annabel is warned because all stories begin somewhere but they don't all end-you can get caught in a story, you can find yourself slipping down into the bowels of a story, like water down a plughole. Annabel tells the story of There are no Dragons in New York. She finds that the story is happening as she tells it and that she is turning into a witch.
