However, a simple look at the accounts is not enough. An analysis using reference numbers, comparisons over time with other companies and/or sector factors is necessary for a real evaluation.
Following a brief overview of the aims and fundamental methods in analyzing accounts, the author clearly explains the reference numbers needed to interpret the annual accounts, while making use of sample balance sheets and examples. The statement thus derived is then illustrated in a practical manner and the author provides tips on the contexts (e.g. comparison over time) in which the results should be derived so as to achieve the greatest possible insight.
