Catherine and Maria are childhood friends who grow up on a farm in the 1920s in the then Eastern Transvaal. A crisis leads to Catherine's family leaving the farm. She returns many years later, and finds herself drawn to the new owner, Tom, but shadows from the past threaten their relationship.
