This collection consists of two vocal cycles by the famous Austrian composer Gustav Mahler (1860-1911). The cycle “Songs of a wayfarer” for voice and piano was written in 1885 (this was later arranged for voice and orchestra by the composer). Initially there were six pieces but the final version features only four. In the cycle, Mahler addresses themes of life, its beauty and the uncertainties of fate. These factors became the key elements in his further works.
Laulukieli: saksa. Laulujen sanat ja esipuhe englanniksi ja venäjäksi.
The cycle “Songs on the death of children” (1904) has a completely different structure. The five songs that are set on the lines by German romanticism poet F. Ruckert are still reflecting inconsolable grief.
The publication is addressed to students and teachers of secondary music schools, higher institutions, professional musicians and all the fans.
