History has left people with sharply defined views of our home. Although it boasted three chapels and no public house, it was once viewed as a lawless place where you took care not to tarry, or were escorted through. Inhabitants of past generations found their employment within the village, working and socialising with their neighbours; provisions were conveyed to them by specialised transport; there was innovation and entrepreneurship, and export of goods to lands far from the Island.
