For the book, Vincent and Theo: Brothers in Art, the actor, writer and musician Frank Groothof put himself in the artist Vincent van Gogh's shoes. From Vincent's perspective, Groothof describes how Vincent's experiences as a child helped him to decide to become an artist. The relationship with Vincent's younger brother Theo is at the center of the book. Together they were brothers in art, Vincent as an artist and Theo as an art dealer in Paris. The reader discovers how Theo time and again enabled his brother to buy painting materials, so he could develop himself as a painter. Thanks to Theo, he learned the new art and met avant-garde artists. Together they collected prints and paintings by friends and admired colleagues and wrote each other hundreds of letters about their dreams and reflections, many of which are included in this book. In an engaging way, Frank Groothof shows how the famous brothers experienced the art world and the special bond they had with each other.
