"As you go through life," my mother taught me, "you will see arrows pointing the way you're supposed to go." And she was right. Told in two parts, this is the story of how arrows appeared at key moments in the author's life. In part one, he relates his medical internship year spent in Baltimore, where his sister Debby worked. Her idealism and courage, especially after she was diagnosed with a rare, fatal cancer, greatly impacted him. Later, he picks up his narrative after completing his training and returning back to his native South Carolina. The lessons learned helped him with his struggle to remain idealistic, deal with another loved one's battle with breast cancer, and battle the arrows which kept pointing him away from achieving his deepest desire. But can someone truly fight his destiny?
