Different from most rulers, Hatshepsut revealed her motivations for usurping power and her reactions to the problems she faced in a unique inscription which survived on a rock-cut chapel that she built in gratitude to the goddess Pakhet for saving her from potential devastation by diverting a tidal-wave away from Egypt. Study and analysis of the inscription text led to the thesis that this tidal-wave was created by the cataclysmic explosion of the volcanic island of Thera/Santorini. Contains a detailed analysis and commentary on a fold-out inscrition and transcription.
