The Maldives are a chain of islands in the Indian Ocean. Officially, there are 1,190 islands. There are 88 resorts and another 39 either proposed or under construction. Following the December 26th, 2004 Tsunami, 14 islands are being rebuilt as Tsunami "Safe Islands". This title includes a number of changes wrought by the Tsunami.
