Real estate investment trusts (REITs) - tax-transparent property trusts quoted on a recognised stock exchange - were finally introduced in January 2007 following a decade of industry lobbying. They are expected to deliver greater liquidity and flexibility to the UK investment market and, thus far, all major large quoted property companies have converted.
