This collection offers some of Verdi’s best-known pieces, suitable for both the professional and the student, arranged for cello and piano by Giacomo Fossa, while the cello part has been curated by Sandro Laffranchini, first cello of the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala. It includes pieces that Verdi expressly composed for cello, such as the “Preludio” from I masnadieri, the “Scherzo” from the String Quartet in E minor, the solo from “Ella giammai m’amò”, and the “Divertissement” from Nabucco, rediscovered in 2021. These are joined by opera aria transcriptions, as well as an album leaf dedicated to Francesco Florimo, all perfectly suited to performance on the cello.
