For children visiting the museum, these animals are entry points to a world that is otherwise abstract and remote. The animals come from a world where they played vital roles in transmitting values as well as providing rich entertainment. The foibles of humans were embodied in the actions of the animals, ridiculing and celebrating our common characteristics. Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing and Frances Gillespie, educator, natural historian and long-term resident of Doha, will collaborate on a sumptuous book of animal fables, based on the animals in the Museum and adapted from sources across the Islamic world including the classic collection known as Kalila and Dimna. Each fable will consist of four highly illustrated and decorated pages, based on an animal from an object. With a total of 64 large size pages, the book will include 14 beautifully illustrated tales.
