Looks at the English writings of four 20th-century Anglo-Arab and Arab-American writers: Ameen Rihani, Khalil Jibran, George Antonius and Edward Atiyah. This text raises central issues such as why Arab writers write in English, and how they encode Arab meanings within an alien discourse.
