This work advocates the use of the word ""poplore"" to describe the popular and commercial roots of the dynamic, syncretic traditions of American democratic culture. Amongst those examined are Johann Gottfried Herder and his theories of nationalism, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Moe Asch.
