Author Freedenthal provides an overview of suicide and related behaviors, with information on such topics as what suicidal behavior is (and is not), how frequently suicide and suicidal behaviors are encountered in social work settings, and who is most at risk for suicide.
The skills covered will include how to talk about suicide with a client, elicit sensitive information, and determine the client's level of danger. The book also discusses effective interventions, including appropriate medications. Also discussed are safety planning, professional standards of care, documentation, and emotional and legal issues social workers may face.
