This volume is the first book-length exploration of Hans-Georg Gadamer's influence on the study of religion. The text considers Gadamer's contributions to the methodological foundations of religious studies, as well as his role in contemporary debates within the discipline. Each chapter engages one of these debates, providing a survey of the issues at hand, close readings, and detailed discussions. Specific topics addressed include the spirituality of the arts; idealist and pantheistic notions of the divine; the elusive language of poetic 'free-thinkers'; the demythologisation of science; and the search for a positive model of globalism and religious pluralism.
