Oxford Progressive English Readers: Grade 2: The Jungle Book
'I have never seen a man's cub,' said Mother Wolf. 'Bring him here. How little he is! And not afraid at all!' Before long the man's cub becomes Mother Wolf's favourite. He is given the name Mowgli - 'Little Frog' in the language of the wolves. He spends his days playing with his four wolf-brothers, and learning about the Law of the Jungle from Baloo, the old brown bear, and Bagheera, the black panther. But Mowgli is in danger. Shere Khan, the bad-tempered old tiger, hates him and wants to kill him. How can Mowgli, who is only a child, fight against the tiger? And where does Mowgli really belong - in the jungle with his friends, or in the world of men?
