Shelly's first novel, Choices - Hers Were Deadly, is the first of a three-part murder mystery series. Cynthia and Chris are mother and daughter, both struggling to find themselves. The main character, Cynthia, finds herself struggling with her new found freedom, and makes many choices that are detrimental to her and Chris' life. After repeated mistakes, her choices cost them in a big way. By the time she realized the penalty for her choices, it was too late. Cynthia's childhood was very difficult, and Chris struggles emotionally to deal with the changes in her mother. Cynthia's irresponsible, reckless behavior caused their lives to unravel at the seams. She lashes out at those who get too close, but there's someone who deals with everyone who gets too close to her.
