Swedish aviation author Mikael Forslund has written over twenty books and this latest celebrates the Supermarine Spitfire in Swedish service. The book is chronologically structured and begins with the crash of a British Spitfire in Funasdalen during the war, the Swedish government's attempt to buy Spitfires during World War II and a look at the Spitfires in Sweden after the war. It documents the deployment of fifty Spitfire Mk. XIX reconnaissance aircraft, designated S 31 by F 11 in Nykoping and gives access to the service manuals for pilots in the Swedish Air Force with technical descriptions, accompanied by drawings, charts, and colour profiles. One chapter tells the story of the acquisition and renovation of the Swedish Air Force Museum's S 31 Spitfire. The final part of the book is about the Spitfires which visited Sweden on air show days in the 1980s, and of course the story of Biltema Spitfire aircraft. The book contains more than 500 photos including rare historic images, some in colour.
