Separated, Asylum-Seeking Children in European Union Member States
The respect, protection, promotion and fulfilment of the rights of the child are one of the European Union's main priorities. According to Article 3 of the Treaty on European Union, the Union shall promote the protection of the rights of the child. Article 24 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EuropeanUnion, which is devoted to the rights of the child, states that "children shall have the right to such protection and care as is necessary for their well-being", while requiring that "in all actions relating to children, whether taken by publicauthorities or private institutions, the child's best interests must be a primary consideration".
