All Right Now! 1970s Newcastle
The 1970s - the decade of tanktops and glamrock, punks, perms and powercuts. They call it the decade that taste forgot, but people in Newcastle upon Tyne, the grimy and violent city depicted in the film Get Carter, seemed to be having a groovy, fab and funky time too in the pubs and clubs, listening to music, trying new restaurants. Of course there was a serious side to life. New motorways cut canyons through the city, demolition and rebuilding was everywhere as Newcastle re-invented itself. And dirty politics, strikes and going to work are all part of the picture. 'All Right Now! 1970s Newcastle' is crammed with photographs and memories from Newcastle Libraries collections, and from over 100 people who were there, famous and not famous at all, who lived, worked and played in the city 1970-1979.
