The history of what English Catholics have suffered, both before and since the Reformation, to preserve their Apostolic faith, is faithfully recorded in the lives of the glorious multitudes of British martyrs. The sufferings of the martyrs before the 16th century are briefly alluded to in the writings of the pre-Reformation historians. This book endeavors to give a complete history of the English martyrs from the Roman occupation until the beginnings of Queen Elizabeth's reign.
