This study is offered for the consideration of those who are interested in the question of the meaning of literature to those for whom it was created, in this case a medieval audience unconscious of "sources" but greatly liking an implied moral. Though the present work is an investigation into the influence of Eucharistic teaching and practice in a circumscribed filed, there are undoubtedly other literary questions which may find an answer in the same influence and which may therefore repay study from the same point of view.
