Tom Graveney one of English cricket's icons, veteran of 79 Tests and a long county career with Gloucestershire CCC and Worcestershire CCC, elected as President of MCC for 2004/2005 at the grand age of 77. This book will celebrate Tom Graveney's year in office and give an interesting account of the function of MCC President and his many duties promoting the game all over the world. In addition the author will describe the MCC in action throughout 2004/2005 with first hand accounts of its wide ranging activities in support of cricket particularly at school and club level. Stephen Fay is a well-established writer and editor on cricket and with Tom Graveney's assistance and the help of several other MCC Officers, is eminently positioned to tell of a President's year. Tom Graveney's Test career stretched from 1951 to 1969 and he played in 79 Tests in all. He joined Gloucestershire CCC in 1948 and remained there until 1960. He then joined Worcestershire CCC in 1961 until retiring from county cricket in 1970. His contribution to the game on and off the field has been tremendous and he is now one of the most revered of cricketers.
His election to the Presidency of MCC is seen by all as a fitting tribute for him and this book will record his time and deeds in the office. Stephen Fay is the author of several books on cricket and for some time was editor of Wisden Cricket Monthly. He is a much-respected writer and this book he sees as a deserved tribute to a man whose exploits in the game of cricket thrilled all who were privileged to see them. Tom Graveney will celebrate his 78th birthday in office on 16th June 2005. His term as MCC President will end on 30th September 2005 and his story will be published in November 2005.
