This unique book is a compilation of sixty firsthand accounts of the World War I's most famous naval clash -- the Battle of Jutland. Privately published in very limited quantities in the 1920s, the complete work is now being reprinted for the first time. Eschewing discussions of strategy and tactics, the book focuses on the personal experiences of the men in the gun turrets, magazines, and bridges of the British fleet. The ramming of the HMS Spitfire and repairs attempted by candlelight in a flooded engine room are just two of the vividly recounted anecdotes in this narrative. Arranged chronologically and illustrated with photographs taken by the participants, these impressions of the battle provide a valuable and moving supplement to the official versions of the action.
