This volume explores the impact of emerging broadband technology on the design of full services access networks. As new technologies such as fibre-optics, ATM transport, and broadband access and interfacing are introduced into telecommnunications networks, the opportunity arises to introduce new network and service management techniques. Benefits of this include reduced cost of ownership, increased customer satisfaciton, and low prices for new services. This volume explores the use of standardized protocols and modelling techniques, TMN-based management applciations, distributed computing environments, object-oriented technology, and legacy systems integration, with particular application to the systems covered by other themes of NOC'98.
