Tracing the war chronologically, Emden follows the British Tommy through the devastating battles and trench warfare, to the armistice in 1918. Also focuses on the lesser known personal stories of the war, from people such as stretcher-bearers, army chaplains and burial parties. Through interviewing 270 veterans, Emden asks about their post-war attitudes, and what they really thought about the war. With over 75 never-before-seen photos, taken illegally by soldiers as the war unfolded around them.
