El-Ghusein is the son of a Bedouin tribal leader. After college he worked in the government and practiced law. When war broke out he refused a job offered him and faced many hardships. When he reached Basra he decided to write this book. El Ghusein wrote this book as a service to the people oppressed by the Turks and as a means of telling the truth about Islam to the Europeans who see Islam as only fanaticism.
