A History of East Africa is a collaboration between three East African historians and teachers to create a book covering the history of their region.
- it builds on the most recent research into the beginnings of East African history
- it describes extensively the pre-colonial societies of East Africa
- its history of post-independent East Africa is comprehensive and up-to-date
- its concept of East Africa looks beyond the three countries of the community to include Ruanda and Burundi
Throughout the book's preparation, its authors had the needs of EACE students specially in mind: in coverage and organisation, approach and style the book is tailored expressly for them.
Many illustrations from original sources complement the text. The result is a book which will also be of interest to the general reader, inside and outside East Africa.
