Based on research into the strategies used to communicate information to the public about the risks of BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) and CJD (Creutzfeldt Jakob disease) in four European countries. This work considers the lessons to be learned from the BSE/CJD crisis, given the need for effective communication on real and perceived risks.
