Provides a balanced, positive approach, emphasizes technology and the media, and is inclusive of the issues of race, class, and gender.
Social Problems in a Diverse Society, Second Edition, emphasizes the centrality of race, class, and gender in understanding people's “lived experiences” and the structure of society. People — especially white women and people of color — are shown not as “victims” of social problems but also as bringing about changes in families, schools, and the workplace. Three primary sociological perspectives are included throughout and are presented in an inclusive manner. Contemporary feminist and humanist perspectives are integrated throughout as well. Kendall invites students to analyze how social policy reflects the various interests and values of the parties involved.
